3 Ways to Begin a New Thread in Embroidery

Learn three different ways to start a new thread in your hand embroidery project, as well as the pros and cons of each method.

Method #1: Thread Folding

Requires an even number of threads, but leaves no loose threads to tie down. This simplest method is usually the best, which is why it’s the first one explained in the video below.

Method #2: Thread Knotting

This method can be done with any number of threads, but it is not an ideal way to begin an embroidery project. Nevertheless, a brief explanation is given in the video below, beginning at the 2:58 mark.

Method #3: Thread Weaving
